Blood Borne Exposures (BBE) (Needlestick, Cut , Scratch , Splash)

UF Health Employees

  •  Create ID INC and report BBE to the Supervisor / Manager immediately
  •  Collect patient source lab work – Order set: Employee Exposure Protocol in EPIC (collect 3 tall red tubes) – refer to IC-01-005_AppA
  •  Report to Employee Health (Mon-Fri, 7 am—4 pm) or the Emergency Department after hours, on holidays, and weekends. You must follow up with Employee Health on the next regular business day.
  • Patient MRN will be required.  Initiate patient source blood work before reporting to EH if possible.

College of Medicine Employees

  • Create ID INC and immediately report the injury to the Supervisor / Manager.
  • Collect patient source lab work – Order set: Employee Exposure Protocol in EPIC (collect 3 tall red tubes) – refer to IC-01-005_AppA.
  • Report to Employee Health (Mon-Fri, 7 am—4 pm) or the Emergency Department after hours, on holidays, and on weekends.  You must follow up with Employee Health on the next regular business day.
  • Patient MRN will be required.  Initiate patient source blood work before reporting to EH if possible.
  • Please note: In addition to reporting to Employee Health, a claim must be filed to AmeriSys at 1-800-455-2079. The COM employee must complete this.

JPI Employees

  • Create ID INC and immediately report the injury to the Supervisor / Manager.
  • Collect patient source lab work – Order set: Employee Exposure Protocol in EPIC (collect 3 tall red tubes) – refer to IC-01-005_AppA.
  • Report to Employee Health (Mon-Fri, 7 am—4 pm) or the Emergency Department after hours, on holidays, and on weekends.  You must follow up with Employee Health on the next regular business day.
  • Patient MRN will be required.  Initiate patient source blood work before reporting to EH if possible.

Students

  • Create ID INC and immediately report the injury to the Supervisor / Instructor.
  • Collect the MRN and patient-source blood. Order set: Employee Exposure Protocol in EPIC (collect 3 tall red tubes). Refer to IC-01-005_AppA.
  • Contact Employee Health at 904-244-9576, provide the patient’s MRN and verify that patient source labs have been collected. EH will communicate the results to the student.
  •  Student must report to the Emergency Department (ED), Primary Care Provider, and/or Student Health for follow-up.
  • Students must utilize their insurance coverage for follow-up care/medications if needed.

Proton / Vendors  

  • Create ID INC and report the injury to the Supervisor / Manager.
  • Supervisor / Manager will advise next steps.
